Time source
How time zone conversion works
The input date and time are interpreted as wall-clock time in the source IANA zone, not in your device's zone. The resolver finds the absolute instant and formats it in the target zone. UTC offsets are calculated for the selected date, so daylight saving changes are reflected.
Nonexistent and ambiguous times
When clocks move forward, a local time such as 02:30 may not exist and is rejected. When clocks move back, a local time may occur twice; select the intended instant from the ambiguity list. Time zone abbreviations such as EST or IST are not used because they are ambiguous.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the date change?
Crossing midnight in another zone changes the calendar date. The result always includes a full date, not only a time.
Does this use my device's time zone?
Only if you explicitly select it. The source zone field controls the interpretation.
Are historical or future rules guaranteed?
No. Results depend on the time zone database available to the browser.
