Zakat calculator

Estimate zakat fitrah, zakat mal, income zakat, and gold zakat from the numbers you enter. Everything is calculated in your browser.

Zakat fitrah

The common one-sha estimate is 2.5 kg or 3.5 litres of the staple food you eat every day.

How these zakat estimates are calculated

Each mode is a separate formula. The tool never mixes the modes, and it never rounds the zakat itself; it only formats the displayed number. The nisab is always compared with the net base of assets, never with gross assets.

Zakat fitrah

Zakat fitrah is one sha of the staple food you eat per person, approximated as 2.5 kilograms of rice or 3.5 litres of rice. Multiply by the number of people in the household, then by the price per unit to see the cost. Most zakat bodies adjust this approximation yearly, so the price is left for you to enter.

Zakat mal (assets)

Add cash, savings, the value of gold and silver, and other zakatable assets, then subtract debts that are due now. The result is the zakat base. Compare it with the nisab value, which is the nisab in grams multiplied by the gold price per gram. If the base reaches the nisab, zakat is 2.5 percent of the base.

Income zakat

Annual net income is the monthly income minus essential needs, multiplied by the number of months worked in the year. The nisab is compared with that annual figure. The monthly zakat shown is simply the annual amount divided by twelve so you can budget for it.

Gold zakat

When the weight you own reaches the nisab in grams, zakat is 2.5 percent of the weight. Gold zakat is paid in gold, so the amount is shown in grams first; the money value is optional and follows the price per gram you enter.

Frequently asked questions

Why is 85 grams of gold used as the nisab?

85 grams corresponds to the widely used 20 mithqal figure. The field is editable because some references use 80 grams, 87.48 grams, or a silver-based nisab instead, and the choice changes the result.

Can I change the 2.5 percent rate?

The rate is fixed at 2.5 percent for savings, gold, and income zakat. Agricultural and livestock zakat use different rates and are outside this tool. If your situation needs another rate, use the percentage calculator instead.

Do I subtract all my debts?

Only subtract debts that are due immediately or very soon. Long-term instalments are usually handled differently, and opinions differ. Enter the figure you would defend before your own zakat authority.

Is this result valid for my school of thought?

The arithmetic is standard, but the inputs are not. Which assets count, which debts are deductible, and which nisab standard applies are legal questions, not arithmetic ones. Use the estimate as a starting figure and confirm the rest with someone qualified.
