URL Encoder & Decoder
Encode or decode URL components, query parameter values, and full URLs as text with mode-aware rules.
URLs and query strings are processed locally and are never visited.
URL input
URL Component encodes a value such as a query value or path segment. Structural delimiters are encoded.
Component encoding versus full URL encoding
encodeURIComponent encodes delimiters such as /, :, ?, &, and =. Use it for a value placed inside a URL. Encoding an entire URL as a component turns it into text that must be decoded before it can be used as a navigation URL.
Spaces: %20 versus +
Percent-encoding represents a space as %20. HTML form encoding commonly represents a space as +. Query decoding in this tool treats + as a space; component decoding does not. %2B remains a literal plus sign.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool validate that a URL works?
No. Encoding success does not prove a URL is reachable, safe, or standard-compliant. The tool never visits the URL.
Why is malformed percent encoding rejected?
A sequence such as %2G is not valid hexadecimal percent encoding. Returning a partial result would hide the error.
Is Unicode supported?
Yes. Standard JavaScript encoding functions convert Unicode to UTF-8 percent-encoded bytes.
