Split bill calculator
Add tax, service charge, and tip to a bill, round the total up if you want, and divide it between people. Amounts are plain numbers: add your own currency symbol when you share the result.
Tax, service charge, and tip are each calculated from the subtotal, not stacked on top of each other. Rounding always goes up, so the charged total is never lower than the exact total.
How the split bill is calculated
Each percentage is applied to the subtotal: tax amount = subtotal × tax% ÷ 100, and the same for the service charge and the tip. The exact total is the subtotal plus those three amounts. That exact total is then rounded up to the step you selected, and only the rounded total is divided by the number of people.
Why round up instead of down
Rounding up keeps the collected amount at least equal to the bill, so the group never falls short by a few units. The difference between the charged total and the exact total is shown separately, so nobody has to guess where the extra came from.
Frequently asked questions
Is the tip applied to the subtotal or to the total?
Here the tip is a percentage of the subtotal, which is the most common way to quote it. Some places calculate the tip after tax or after service. If your bill says so, enter the tip as a percentage of the total you were quoted, or use the discount and percentage tools to check the number.
What about a remainder that does not divide evenly?
The per-person figure is the exact quotient, so it can contain decimals. In practice one person pays the rounded-up share and the group settles the small difference. Choosing a rounding step that divides well between your group avoids fractions entirely.
Why is there no currency symbol?
The same arithmetic works for rupiah, dollars, euros, or any other currency, and symbols vary by locale. The summary is plain numbers so you can paste it into a chat and add the symbol your group uses.
