Markdown Table Generator

Build a Markdown table with editable rows, columns, and alignment, then copy the result.

Table content stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Markdown table builder

Table size

Column alignment

One setting per column. Alignment is written into the separator row of the table.

Import spreadsheet data

Paste cells copied from a spreadsheet. Columns must be separated by tabs, one row per line.

Editable grid

Type into any cell. The Markdown and the preview below update as you type.

Rendered preview

This is how the table renders. Cell text is shown as plain text, never as HTML.

What a Markdown table needs

A Markdown table is a header line, a separator line of dashes, and one line per data row. Pipes separate the cells. The separator row also carries the alignment: a colon on the left means left aligned, colons on both sides mean centered, and a colon on the right means right aligned. A table cannot be rendered without a header row, so when the header option is switched off the builder still emits an empty header line to keep the syntax valid.

Pipes inside cells

A pipe character inside a cell would end the cell early, so every pipe is escaped as \| in the output. The rendered preview shows the original character. Line breaks are not allowed inside a Markdown table cell, so the grid uses single-line cells on purpose.

Moving data in and out

Pasting tab-separated cells is the fastest way to fill the grid: copy a block in a spreadsheet, paste it into the data field, and press Fill grid from data. The grid is resized to fit the data up to twenty rows and twenty columns. Everything stays in the page, so no spreadsheet file is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Can I leave cells empty?

Yes. An empty cell is written as an empty column entry, and the column keeps its width from the widest value in that column.

Is HTML in a cell rendered?

No. The preview builds real table elements and inserts each cell as text, so markup shows up as literal characters and can never execute.

What happens to very wide tables?

The grid scrolls horizontally instead of squeezing cells. Twenty columns is the upper limit, which keeps the output readable in most Markdown renderers.
